IYTE life – GIS, Story Map
Half of my time in Izmir has passed, so I guess I should be aware and have some feelings about the surroundings.
In the class Advanced GIS is quite easy, but introduced me to some ESRI products which I haven’t got my hands on before.
This time is the Story map, I think it will be a great tool for presentation as a GIS user.
So, please enjoy
Fist is the cascade story map
And also the Journal Story Map
That is some basic use of story map and small walks around.
And for blogs, I think the tour map could come in handy.
And this one was kind of my last blog Exploring the beach near Urla and used in this story map.
it’s quite fun.
————————————————————————————————————————–
So, for the things besides technology? what did I learned here?
Well even though I will write things not so pleasant here, but still I don’t regret coming here.
As my moral, make every decision as yourself after ten years, will you regret not doing it?
If yes, of course do it. If no, well why are you still worrying so much.
It saved me out of a lot of emotional suffers.
So, as for everyday life, I’m used to not speaking any thing while going around in Urla, the town I live.
Though the fish selling guy is my friend now, but still I can’t really communicate with him.
And every other shops. And also looking for the best way to draw money and with card or cash.
those small things filled all the small gaps of life, chores took more time than in Frankfurt, and more tiring.
And for school life, it’s nice to be taking different lessons, the lesson mind set is some how life in NTU but not as advanced, sadly. I can understand why they do this but not agree with them.
Classes are not always understandable, or too crazy.
Research seminar, this is the third time I take courses to generate a research question, though I’m still bad at doing this, I’m not really a researcher I guess. But this seems to be the only class with a proper content as a master course. Though the teacher has some issues of repeating herself. Last week I had one individual class, to cut and finish her words and go to the next topic faster is the task.
Economic and regional development. the teacher seems nice and also have good lecture skill, everything is loud and clear, still, it’s not what I want. It is talking about the ancient 1990s model and how to grow. The era of endless growing is in the past, and all the things I stand for against.
Planning Theory is til now the most confusing lesson. Every week the most of the hard reading is from this class, and in the lesson, the question of the professor is really hard since she digs in all the details of the terms and phrases. And the answer is even more confusing, like is it even a sentence? every word is correct but don’t really have a answer. Just no idea what the heck is all the history of the theories which brought to the disastrous cities of the current US. I don’t know since it was always criticized in the past year.
Advanced GIS, well not so advanced since I’m already an advanced user. I guess it’s automatic A if everything went smoothly.
And then classmates, well it seems now I’m the Charlie and three angels, the sidekick of the DEU group. But it’s fun. And among the classmates, hmm English speaker is really rare, but still I had good friends I can give credits for this.
————————————————————————————————————————
Outside of school I guess I’m stuck at Gulbahce, Urla surf house.
I really enjoyed there, the kiting is fun. And kind of the only place I can speak with people pleasantly.
When there’s wind, I want to go, when there’s no wind, nothing much to do.
The owner of Urla Surf House Nico is the best guy in the whole Izmir time I met, he got soul, and kindness of helping me and offers me all kinds of kite styles, he like to see kiters improve and he kites with freedom.
Strongly recommend to come to this place and enjoy the wind.
And how about the free diving course?
Well til today there’s three days on the boat, yes, only three fuckin days, from September.
And ALWAYS on windy days. The lessons are less progress. One indoor class took place last week, and it was turkish. The student who translates for me is not doing a good job, but I can’t blame him.
This Sunday there’s another session, and also, Sunday is the only windy day in the following week, damn.
I was looking forward to learning but the progress and the coaching just kept letting me down.
————————————————————————————————————————-
For the friends I know in Izmir? everyone is really friendly and nice. I can really count on everyone of them. They always offer help and ask if I need. And actually I really need them, I feel useless when nothing works out when I try to do anything, just frustrating, the bond between people is the best in here.
So, let friends help, and also a good reason to hangout, and grab a beer, turkish coffee, cay(tea), is always so enjoyable.
Friends here are more hanging out, comparing to the endless partying in Frankfurt.
So I quite enjoyed when there’s friends and really cherish the moments.
Though still mostly the moments are the lonely Urla townsville.

This blog is kind of the murmuring of the life here so far, I like some part, hate some part, complicated just like life itself.
I just have to keep going on and see where I go.
棉花堡Pamukkale-First ESN trip in Turkey
This is the first overnight with the ESN in Izmir, and we had a blast.
One week ago was the boat trip, and this time is to the famous Pamukkale.
With sun and rain, we all began
Because I live kind of far, in the town Urla, so my bro Ada helped me crash in their house in Şirinyer.
With all the deu students, foreign and local, we had a chilled night.
and the next morning, it’s time to hit the road!
In the bus is mainly the show time of our man, Adriano with endless power.
After a long ride, we stopped a lot of toilets, and finally, we had our lunch at 3
And behind the scene
Exploring the beach near Urla
After settle down, it’s time to explore the surroundings!
there are some beach around: Karapınar,Çeşmaltı, Balıklıova, Mordoğan, Karaburun
Till today, I’ve been to three places around,Karapınar,Çeşmaltı, and one Cesme diving.
Before the first beach, I went to the university to meet the Erasmus office, and then go to Gülbahçe looking for the kite surfing rental.
交換生涯的開始-全新國度,土耳其Izmir
Urla
照著室友給的指示,一路上基本上沒有問題直接抵達
到的時候六點半,沒有網路,沒有電話,我必須安全抵達
當然我是輕鬆就找到了我的室友Polatkan
Camping in Pfalzerwald
For Spring break, I did climbing, Amsterdam, but it’s just not enough.
So for the Adam-Opel Gang, we are doing something wild!
This time we arranged camping trip.
At first it could be a big group, but eventually it end up with only Dustin and me.
But it’s still okay, nothing will turn us down!
For the tent, I borrowed from my friend from climbing, Ronja.
And then just go to Karlsruhe!
well we booked almost everything at the last moment, the tent place are almost all booked for it’s Easter
Actually we also had some confusion by searching, google is helpful but cannot do everything for us.
So after arriving in Karlsruhe, we still need to go to the area of hiking, and Dustin wants to walk there, it’s 50 KM just to be clear.
We went to the tourist center and ask, “How do we go to Pfalzewald? “
The lady looked at us in a funny way, and said, “Do you two young fellows know how big of a region you’re talking about?"
Well it’s the biggest forest protection area including Germany and France in Europe.
So after showing the camping site, we still need to take the regional train and go the a small town.
And here we noticed how this system of hiking goes. It’s a long way including 13 camp sites, which people can walk from number 1 all the way to 13. but we are only going to stay two, 4 and 5.
http://www.trekking-pfalz.de/de/trekking-plaetze/
Here we go!
We go cross the river, over the road, and under the bridge.
And start our road to the Pokemon Master
First one, goat
And after a break, let’s head for the mountaintop!
At the mountaintop are some rocks, as this monkey learned some dangerous skills, now it’s your time to shine!
And for my civilized friend, congratulations, you are a man
OK, now quit the jokes and stop fooling around! we are on a mission!
quiet, and let’s go for it, one shot, one kill
We also met some mountain bikers
now, let’s look at the sediment rock, there recorded the story of this land
That’s quite the first day of hiking. And we reached the camping site.
Set up the tent
And got more to explore!
More of the poser pictures, actually they are just few inches from the ground.
And this one is not monkey anymore, it looks like a gorilla, or black ape
back to the track, to drink or not to drink
And getting higher
Guard!
More mountains
And we reached a high rock!
We can see the fear of the human instinct, the height.
After that, we keep moving on, and found a cave man.
We tried to exchange some shiny things with him, be he’s just not accepting it.
And he seems to write down today
And now, more posers
Beware my wraith! I got the power!
and then we walked long for the camping site.
the last few km is onto one steep slope, and we don’t want to follow the path, instead we cut through in the middle.
I released my animal instinct and rushed up to the top, Dustin needs to protect his beloved stick and is slower.
At the top, there was one kid saying," Hey mama, the is one coming out from the bushes and look there is another one, he’s slower!"
Dustin swear to God he want to kill that kid at that time.
We were all exhausted at the top, but the view is a reward.
Great bros!
and then, dinner!
————————————————————————————————————–
And now it’s time to say good bye to the woods
the last day
Mr. Dustin, say goodbye to the stick helped you, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.
Well, this relationship last longer than I thought!
Back to be the Pokemaster
And the last stop is the castle, Burg Trifels
we need to cross the deadly pond
Cut the poison Ivy
Fight the dragon
well, lack of budget, so please just imagine one.
View of the castle.
And then we are back to the city. Kaiserslautern
It’s quite a fun camp, and we’ll definitely do more!
Fountainbleau – Road to a Bolderer
As I started the course of bouldering in the University, our teacher Esa taught this monkey a new skill.
And when the semester closes to an end, we arranged one trip to the Fountainbleau climbing area.
People in our class are Olli, Andreas and me. Esa is unfortunately injured before the trip, but we beginners got a lot of help from the seniors.
The five days are great weather for March, not too hot, and no rain.
Though the moss are still on some rocks, but for us beginners, it doesn’t really make a difference.
We started everyday shopping in the supermarket, then climb, cook, chat, and sleep.
Everyday just get our crashpad and go for the rocks!
After that, is the warm up.
Then is camping
cooking
Eating
A Really HIGH City- Amsterdam
Finally my blogs are catching up.
Seafood is something hard and expensive in Frankfurt.
When we walk in this city, the harbor and channel is an important part
So anchor is heavy
It’s a nice day with much cyclers! oh my god! I miss that
All for the windmills
Sun Wukong
Everything was so nice, even the most normal walking is a great ride, adventure of senses.
It’s really indescribable. I believe it’s banned because it can make the world so peace.
But we made a wrong decision, go to have a pizza and drink kwak
This is the last nice photo that night.
After the beer, everything got sooooo dizzy
I swear I saw Devil and Death itself in the sky of that night.
Another interesting experience is that when we are waiting for the train to go back home
As I closed my eyes and listen to the sound of train accelerating, and I can feel the wind and the speed.
When the speed is too fast for me to bear, I opened my eyes, then I was whooshed back to my body.
Fortunately I can control myself not to puke on the train.
————————————————————————————————————————–
The Last Day
We set off
I’m crying when I’m eating, so good.
————————————————————————————————————————–
After this, time to head back home
Why are you still watching! We are going home!
—————————————————————————————————————————
Well, that’s our trip for Aylen’s birthday. It’s always funny to go with crazy friend and the most important thing is one photographer appreciates the dumb things we do.
Adam-Opel Strasse- The room of the King and Prince
It all starts at the day I moved in, 2016/10/01
a new, adventurous life awaits in this building
and the story is still going
this, is the house I’m going to live through my master.
Well, that is the European center bank, this is my real house.
This story is really hard to start, because this is just too much to say,
so just like the old story of all times.
Once upon a time, there was one house called Adam-Opel 24
It was built in the 1960s, used for old bachelors.
There were so many cool guys living there,
like Alex, who is always drunk and knocking on our door.
and others heard from Dustin,
like there was one guy called the phoenix, tried to jump and kill himself from first floor
once a black guy on drug and banged the kitchen.
some fellows go in and out the jail frequently.
A lot of old men R.I.P. in their room.
so, the life here, I’m looking forward to it!
————————————————————————————————————————–
Now to introduce my friends in this block.
Okay, I think I’ll start with the story of the king. After all, he’s the one I can live into this place.
He’s the man who lives here for the longest time, 35 years.
He came from Italy, a place “with 200 km coastline".He was a worker at the company nearby.
When you really hug him you can feel the warm sun in his blood, he may not be your grandpa, but he is definitely an old man everyone like.
But actually it’s really hard to describe, it’s a atmosphere, which you can only feel it.
————————————————————————————————————————–
We had so many parties
Birthday
Skiurlaub- snowboarding in Winterberg
Okay, since my report deadline is March 7 (Wed.) and the German course starts at March 13(Mon.)
So I got only few days free.
I wanted to do snowboarding so hard, I just find all the information and planned one trip to Winterberg.
I asked all the people I know in Frankfurt where to ski,
and even went to the Frankfurt ski club
well, eventually I have to plan a trip of my own,
there was one chance to go at March 5, but my project is not done yet.
So I went with Abhi, cause I can only ask the guys tough enough to handle themselves when I don’t know much about the place we are going.
———————————————————————————————————————–
So, the traffic is from Frankfurt Hbf first to Siegen, and then Bad Berleburg, last bus to Winterberg.
Our semester ticket should be available for the first connection,
though we’re not so sure, we went anyway.
So the inspector checked our ticket, and think it’s available at the beginning,
but he came to check twice, and go look up on his manual,
and came the third time and made his call:
“You can only travel to one station before Siegen, so you need to pay for one station, that is 3.50″
okay, that’s the deal.
the weather is still cloudy, but not snowing like yesterday
and I found some downhill place worth coming on summer
And we took a small break around one hour in the room for lunch( breads from breakfast)
and then keep on
I’m getting better, I can feel it
At one point the elevator stopped, it’s around three
and it stopped so long that I’m afraid if I’ll make it or walk back like Abhi yesterday
Here’s the second episode of falling
And this day we went further into town for dinner
not really good I would say, but we are hungry enough
————————————————————————————————————————–
The third day we checked out and put the bags in a room they prepared for all the skiers in last day
And keep on!
Today I really managed almost every slope, expect for the extreme high and steep one
I went all the way rolling down it
and the result is pretty nice!
Nice weather, perfect ending!
————————————————————————————————————————
Well, not that perfect.
On our way back, we got serious toe pain
My toes are all swollen
But for the fun we had, worth it!
